Introduction to Photovoltaic System Design & Construction

Interested in getting into the solar field? This week-long workshop will introduce participants to the fundamentals of solar energy, types of solar energy systems, system sizing principles, and the electrical and mechanical design of photovoltaic arrays. This workshop includes site visits to installed systems on the campus of Appalachian State.

The course will focus on the key competencies addressed in the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Associate PV exam and includes the exam, which you can schedule at your convenience. Upon passing, you will receive the NABCEP Photovoltaic Associate Certification. The NABCEP Photovoltaic Associate Program is designed for individuals wanting to get into the solar field, and is a way to demonstrate achievement of a basic knowledge of the fundamental principles of the application, design, installation and operation of grid-tied and stand-alone PV Systems. Overnight accomodations are not included in the course fee. Participants will need to make their own hotel arrangements. 

Breakfast and lunch costs are included in the course fee.

 Early Registration Cost: $1,500 *

Students, staff and faculty in UNC System Early Registration Cost: $800**

Class is limited to 30 participants. 

You may cancel your registration two weeks before class starts for a refund minus a $50 processing fee. There will be no refunds after July 29,  2024. In certain cases, we will issue a full credit for a future class.

Location: Appalachian State University Campus. Parking will be at College Street Parking Deck, the gate for the parking deck will be open.
Time: Monday through Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm. Participants will receive a daily per diem for breakfast and lunch on campus.

Continuing Education Credits Offered: 24 hours for the NCBEEC, 37 PDH, 37 LU|HSW                                
All attendees will receive a Certificate of Completion
