Energy storage has many benefits and opportunities for growth allowing flexibility and potential to transform how we produce and consume electricity. With the many advances taking place in the energy storage space, it is an exciting time to review the latest developments in the market. The emergence of variable and decentralized power generation from renewable sources is accentuating the unbalance between production and consumption of electrical energy in the power system. Further, the adoption of electric vehicles and frequency of natural disasters are reinforcing the need for alternative approaches to strengthen the grid. Energy storage solutions can make a major contribution in alleviating these effects. In addition, we will explore a novel methodology to analyze benefits from investments in renewable plus energy storage projects.

Sal Gill is the Global Business Development Manager for ABB’s Power Consulting services business. Mr. Gill has been leading consulting engagements in the power industry for 10+ years dealing with utility and industry clients around the world. Mr. Gill’s current focus is on planning and implementation of emerging technologies and concepts in the utility industry dealing with distributed energy resources, microgrids, energy storage, and grid automation, analytics and modernization.
