Inaugural Energy Innovation Student Pitch Competition at the NC State Energy Conference - March 15 Deadline

The First Annual Energy Innovation Student Pitch Competition, will be held in conjunction with the State Energy Conference of North Carolina on April 30 - May 1, 2019. Through generous sponsorships, prizes will be awarded to student teams led by North Carolina-based colleges and universities.

Student teams will pitch their ideas by showcasing solutions in one of the following categories:

  • Energy Innovation – Best new energy product or business model
  • Energy Poverty – Best plan or product to address energy poverty or inequality
  • Next Gen Energy Challenges – Most promising next gen research ideas

Two teams of finalists in each category will provide a 10-minute pitch at a dinner event hosted on April 29, 2019, the evening prior to the State Energy Conference. Registration for the dinner will be open to all to attend. All finalists will also have a 60-second video featured during the State Energy Conference, which draws over 800 attendees over the two day event.

Timeline and Deadlines

Due by March 15 – Round one, Open call for projects:

Application, initial 60-second video and a one page executive summary for your project. Application link coming soon!. Notification via email by March 29 to semifinalist teams.

Due by April 12 – Round two, by invitation only:

Maximum five page business plan based on template to be provided. Notification via email by April 19 of top two teams in each category of advancement to Finals. Finalists invited to present at the pitch competition dinner.

April 29 – First Annual Energy Innovation Student Pitch Competition Dinner:

Teams, by invitation only, will provide a 10 minute in-person pitch before judges and audience. Grand prize winners and runners up selected in each category.

April 30-May 1 – State Energy Conference:

Revised 60-second project pitch videos for all finalists presented throughout the conference.
