Scholarships Available for Veterans and Community College Students Wanting to Enter the Solar Industry

Cypress Creek Renewables has donated $5,000 to support five $1,000 scholarships for veterans and community college students in Iredell, Rowan and Yadkin counties. The scholarships will cover tuition for the Introduction to Photovoltaic System Design and Construction Workshop, which is a first step for those interested to get started into the solar field. The May 13-17 workshop includes the NABCEP Photovoltaic Associate Exam and is a way to demonstrate achievement of a basic knowledge of the fundamental principles of the application, design, installation and operation of grid-tied and stand-alone PV Systems. Upon passing the exam, students will receive this valued certification. North Carolina continues to be a leader in solar power, ranking second behind California for adding the most solar energy in 2017.

Cypress Creek Renewables is a major developer of renewable energy specializing in large-scale solar projects. Cypress Creek aims to train a workforce where they are needed and has selected these counties by assessing where the company has plans for future growth.

Veterans who live in Iredell, Rowan, or Yadkin County and students who attend Rowan-Cabarrus CC, Mitchell CC, or Surry CC and are interested can apply for this scholarship here. The workshop will be held May 13-17, 2019 on the campus of Appalachian State University.
