The Appalachian Energy Center is involved in a pilot project in Maracanau, Ceara, Brazil which will improve the lives of local “catadores” or waste pickers. New analysis of North Carolina’s power sector shows that the state is well positioned to meet – and potentially exceed – national carbon pollution standards that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is expected to unveil in the coming years. The analysis, conducted by experts at the World Resources Institute, shows the state has already made considerable progress in reducing emissions and building a strong clean energy sector.

The Watauga County Landfill Gas-to-Energy Project was recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency's Landfill Methane Outreach Program with a Project of the Year award.
