NC Battery Industry Partnership
Convening & connecting the battery industry in North Carolina to develop strategic relationships and solutions around key challenges & opportunities
The battery and energy storage industry represents a broad value chain, from mining and processing, to component manufacturing, to BESS deployment and end-of-life reuse and recycling.
Mission and Goals
The North Carolina Battery Industry Partnership (NCBIP), led by Appalachian State University’s Appalachian Energy Center, is a two-year initiative (2025-2026) funded by the North Carolina General Assembly through the NC Collaboratory. The Partnership brings together industry, government, academic, and nonprofit stakeholders to understand North Carolina’s battery and energy storage value chain, identify barriers and opportunities to growth, and develop actionable insights to strengthen the state’s economic competitiveness, workforce outcomes, and energy system performance.
Highlights and Activities
- Three active working groups focused on 1) Policy & Infrastructure; 2) Workforce & Education and 3) Supply Chain
- Engaging with over 50 active companies in North Carolina’s battery and energy storage sector
- Creating an industry roadmap of findings and recommendations to strengthen NC’s battery buckle, its companies, and its economy

About the Partnership
- Launched in January 2025
- Convened and led by the Energy Center at Appalachian State University
