Building Zero Energy Ready (NCLBGC): In-person

Date: October 6, 2023

This daylong IN-PERSON workshop will meet ALL 8 hours of the required continuing education (CE) for NC General Contractors, as well as 6 CE hours for architects, engineers, and GC’s who only need elective courses. The times and order of courses are subject to change.

  • Mandatory 2-hr NCLBGC 2023  What Licensed General Contractors Need to Know
  • Building Zero Energy Ready: Setting the Stage with the HERS and ERI (2-hr)
The Home Energy Rating System (HERS) is a nationally recognized system used to determine and verify a home’s Energy Performance. Likewise, the Energy Rating Index (ERI) has emerged as an Energy Code compliance option that can be used in designing the energy provisions of a home. This course will set a HERS/ERI of 50 as the starting point for supporting any renewable energy system installed in a home. It will also explore the difference in the HERS and ERI and showcase key building features that help drive the HERS and ERI scores lower.
    Continuing Education Credits: 2 hr. NCLBGC , 2 LU|HSW, 2 PDH
  • Building Zero Energy Ready: Deep Dive into Mechanical Systems (2-hr)
Zero energy ready homes are more energy efficient and have a tighter building envelope than a standard home which changes the landscape for mechanical systems. This course will take a deep dive into high performance mechanical systems including mechanical design for low load homes, IAQ and ventilation, and new equipment choices on the market that optimize comfort, efficiency and cost. A detailed case study will be reviewed.
Continuing Education Credits: 2 hr. NCLBGC, 2 LU|HSW, 2 PDH
  • Building Zero Energy Ready: Residential Solar (2-hr)
The demand for solar photovoltaic (PV) systems is growing. Builders who integrate the ability to add solar PV into new construction can attract customers and stay competitive. This course will give builders a basic understanding of construction and site design for optimum solar performance including the PV install process, battery storage options, understanding energy loads, the impacts to home value, and where the market is going.
